Sculpting The Figure In Clay

Experience the magic of creating your own clay figures in terra cotta stoneware and air-dried clay. You will have the opportunity to create bold figures during this week long intensive class using live models and instruction. The focus will be on working with coil, slab and other sculpting methods along with exploring finishing techniques. Beginner and advanced students will enjoy being involved in an active instructor led studio where they can develop and build upon their skills working at their own pace. You will construct three sculpted figures, a reclining figure and a torso.

Airfare to and from Roanoke is not included in the fee. Cost of shipping artwork to the student’s home, if required, will also incur an additional charge.
Working with professional models in the studio at Cheryl’s hillside home, Woodloft, in Virginia’s beautiful Roanoke Valley, you will sculpt:
- a seated nude female figure;
- a nude male figure; and,
- a clothed bust.
The course fee includes:
- room and bed for seven days;
- all food and beverages including breakfast, lunch, dinner , and snacks;
- all instructor’s fees;
- all model fees;
- all art supplies, including clay, use of sculpting tools, and a large selection of embellishments to be used on finished creations;
- access to Cheryl’s extensive library of art books;
- trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway to the town of Floyd including lunch;
- trip to Natural Bridge, VA including lunch at the Pink Cadillac Diner;
- use of studio computer;
- access to Woodloft studio, gardens and swimming pool;
- transportation to and from the Roanoke airport; and,
- any other required ground transportation.
