Have you ever wanted to learn to sculpt the human face or figure? Now is your chance to explore the world of clay while enjoying the serenity of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Don’t miss out on being a part of Cheryl’s art retreat by attending one or both of the sculpture classes being offered this summer: Faces, Faces, Faces! July 8th - 15th 2012 and Sculpting the Figure in Clay July 22nd - 29th 2012.
Students will reside at Woodloft, Cheryl’s home, for the duration of the course, giving each an opportunity to enjoy the peaceful, wooded beauty of Woodloft’sgrounds between studio sessions. Lying within walking distance of the Blue Ridge Parkway with its majestic views, Woodloft provides an environment ideal for both inspiration and meditation. At the end of the course, students will be treated to a cooking class by Chef Stratton St. Clair, the resident chef for the week. There will also be guest artists and other surprises offered, which will be announced closer to class.
Cheryl will personally provide class instruction and individual guidance through all of these projects. Each student will learn Cheryl’s unique, seasoned techniques for creating sculpted clay faces and figures.
All classes will be conducted in English. Enrollment will be limited to five students so Cheryl can provide abundant individual guidance. Whether beginner or experienced sculptor, students at every level of expertise are welcome.

Artist Statement
I seek to create a studio environment that allows students to immerse themselves completely in their work. To achieve this, I try to remove as many distractions as possible. furnishing all materials required for the students’ work and providing all meals and other daily necessities.
I also feel it is important for the student to get to know the area in which they are residing. We will visit a local winery located on the Blue Ridge Parkway and also our local Farmer’s Market. At the end of the week, each student will take or ship home samples of the work they create in class and will have a firm grasp of how to recreate the process once home.

"Cheryl, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the experience at Woodloft. It was one of the most magical, joyful, loving, creative times I have had for a long time. I will always cherish the skills I learned, getting to know you better and making new friends with Trish, Leslie and Laura. We are definately soul sisters. I deeply appreciate your generous spirit, your loving heart, your magnificent sense of humor and your extraordinary creativity. Thank you. "
